It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. One of the reasons for this recent momentum is that its government has made the wise decision to diversify the city from an oil-based economy to a tourism economy. Aladdin City is a project inspired by the story of Aladdin and his magic lamp. The developers want to establish this exceptional project in Dubai Creek, a saltwater inlet off the Persian Gulf; it will be placed near Dubai's famous tower, Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. The official construction contract for Aladdin City has been awarded to the Meinhardt International Group. It is a global engineering and design company that is helping to elevate urban landscapes around the world: they have designed highly innovative office towers, hotels and resorts all over the world. But here, it will face a completely new type of urban development requirement. Its goal is also to minimize the impact of construction on natural resources and biodiversity. Aladdin City was originally supposed to be up and running in 2020, but it seems that construction has not even started yet. In Dubai, there are also much simpler projects architecturally speaking: the Dubai Frame, for example, is considered the largest picture frame in the world. The horizontal part at the top of the frame is made up of a panoramic glass bridge accessible by elevator, which allows visitors to have a 360-degree view of the entire city. The ground floor houses a futuristic museum. The Dubai Frame has welcomed around 2 million visitors a year since it opened in January 2018. The idea behind the underwater train is that passengers will be able to travel from Fujairah, located in the United Arab Emirates, to Mumbai, India, all thanks to an underwater network. Goods will also be transported from one city to another thanks to this network in order to boost the connection between these two countries. Let's continue with a slightly more frivolous project: the Bluewaters Islands are located off Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, and are artificial islands located 300 meters from the coast, near Dubai Marina. They are connected by a pedestrian bridge and a footbridge. The project cost $1.2 billion to create, and as a proper affluent tourist attraction, Bluewaters Island is home to luxury hotels and resorts, a private beach with three swimming pools, a shopping and entertainment center with over 150 shops and restaurants, and a residential section with luxury apartments. Dubai is all about pushing itself. And soon, the city will break its own record by building the world's tallest tower, currently held by the 828-meter-high Burj Khalifa. In fact, the Creek Tower will soon hold that record. Construction has already begun, and when completed, the tower will be 1,007 meters tall. The tower's appearance is said to have been inspired by the desert lilies known as Hymenocallis. The Dubai Canal expansion is another major infrastructure project that would provide even more space for hotels, retail, and residential developments. The $300 million project would create an artificial river bank that would provide more building space for the ever-expanding city. The extension would be 3 kilometers long and 50 meters wide, and would include pedestrian and cycle paths. Digging up the 3 billion liters of earth needed to extend, widen and deepen the canal would create an artificial peninsula along Jumeirah Park. Located near Dubai Airport, the Jewel of the Creek complex would be almost 1 square kilometer, and would be built along Dubai Creek. The architectural design of the building reflects the waves and the movement of water along the creek. It would include five-star hotels, residential and office buildings, waterfront restaurants, a convention center with a ballroom and an entertainment center. It would also include a promenade on an artificial island. The centerpiece of the Jewel of the Creek, however, would be its swimming pool, which is said to be the longest pool in all of Dubai.
