We live in a small country, but nature in the Netherlands is incredibly diverse. From vast heathlands and expansive beaches to dense forests: we 'have' it all. But there are also nature reserves that you have never heard of and where you (probably) will never visit. These hidden natural gems are not affected by our human activities. They are off-limits to the public and that is why you will find a great biodiversity there. For example, a very rare animal lives between the oil refineries on the Maasvlakte: the natterjack toad. Two ecologists and a filmmaker take us to a shooting range in Drenthe, the Maasvlakte near Rotterdam and we dive into the North Sea. Watch a selection of Dutch nature secrets here.
