The Grandma Who Lived 18 Years in One Pair of Shoes! An Incredible Story of Survival In Evrytania, in the mountainous village of Katavothra, we met the 87-year-old grandmother Aphrodite, a woman whose life is inextricably linked to her place. Born into a large family, grandmother Aphrodite lived a life full of difficulties, poverty and hard work. Although she longed to learn letters, her father did not allow her to, burning her books. Poverty was ubiquitous, with the family surviving on produce from their livestock and garden. Until 1980, the village had no road, forcing Grandma Aphrodite to walk barefoot, with only one pair of shoes keeping her company for 18 years. In order to survive, grandmother Aphrodite made goats and sheep and carried supplies on her back, traveling long distances on foot, together with the other women of the village. Life was difficult, full of hardship and deprivation. Through her stories, Grandma Aphrodite took us back in time, to a time when women were often married against their will. She told us about her father who married three times, stealing his wives, and about her own mother who was stolen by her 58-year-old father when she was only 23. Grandma Aphrodite also lived through the civil war, with the rebels arriving in the village and the residents being forced to hide in the forest to escape. Despite the difficulties she faced, Grandma Aphrodite got married and had three children. Today, at the age of 87, she continues to live in her beloved village, taking care of the few animals she has and cultivating her garden. Her strength and tenacity for life are a source of inspiration for us all. #ΖωήΣτοχοριο #evrytania #history #tradition #greekvillagelife ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ????⚠️Downloading, modifying and using excerpts or entire videos is prohibited for any reason.
