About :

Encounters with Russians from six generations bring us closer to Russia and the Russians, beyond Moscow and the Kremlin. They show a Russia between tradition and the future. Author Juri Rescheto travels to the edges of the huge country and meets ordinary Russians who share their everyday lives with him, tell him about their joys and worries, their hopes and needs, their good and bad life experiences. We get intimate insights into housing and workplaces, sometimes also about political attitudes, personal living standards and manners. The situation of the protagonists is related to that of the respective generation for which our protagonists speak using publicly accessible Russian sources. In the first part, halfway between Moscow and Novosibirsk, we meet Jelena, who works as a surrogate mother in a children's home and tells us a lot about a difficult start in life. Then we travel to the taiga in the far west of Siberia and meet 16-year-old student Veronika, who lives in a boarding school almost all year round. Her parents are reindeer nomads. They belong to the Khanty, one of the so-called small peoples of Siberia. The generation of young adults in Russia brings us closer to Kirill, who has a completely normal job and a risky hobby: public fist fighting. In the second part of the documentary, we get to know Dmitrij, who lives in northwest Russia and spends his working life at the largest smelting furnace in Europe, as a proud steelworker and admirer of Vladimir Putin. At the legendary Lake Baikal, we meet the pensioner Baba Ljuba, who tells us a lot about this region and her hard-working and eventful life. Finally, we get to know Ivan, who lives off death - because he carves gravestones in a gigantic cemetery in central Russia. #DWDoku #Documentary #Russia __ DW Doku offers you information beyond the headlines and brings together excellent documentaries from German television stations and international production companies.
