The 1990s, after the end of the Cold War, are often portrayed as a victory for liberal democracy. In his book Crack-Up Capitalism. Market Radicals and the Dream of A World Without Democracy, Canadian historian Quinn Slobodian describes the opposite movement. He sees a trend towards more and more separate 'zones' with their own rules and as little democracy as possible - where money can hop and shop freely.
