Located in the Alto de Pinheiros neighborhood of São Paulo, this house occupies a naturally flat 600m² plot of land. Built in 1973 with colonial architecture by a Portuguese family, the house has remained virtually intact for 50 years, with few changes. In 2022, Estúdio OLO (@estudioolo) began a Retrofit Project to renovate the facilities and adapt them to the needs of Fran (@francinejubran) and her family. The 80m² annex was demolished, making way for a vertical garden structured with wire for climbing plants. The ground floor underwent changes, with the old dining room integrated into the living room and the new garden, becoming a kitchen bar. One of the bedrooms was converted into a covered garage, while the layout of the other rooms was preserved, undergoing restoration of the floors, windows, painting and air conditioning installations. On the second floor, the renovation included updating the electrical and plumbing infrastructure, changes to the layout, which went from four bedrooms and one bathroom to two suites and a living room, in addition to the introduction of air conditioning and technological innovations, such as photovoltaic panels. The main challenge of the project was to find the fine line between meeting the needs and maintaining the important points of the original project. Several possibilities were studied for these situations in order to maintain the powerful architectural elements. Original items of the residence were restored and maintained, such as the solid wood arched doors, the large Riga pine windows, the restructured and relocated light fixtures that were found in the hatch, the mirrors for the sockets and switches, and the built-in cabinets, which were executed by the Liceu de Ofícios de São Paulo. In the Interior Design Project, the concept was to free the current residents from the existing furniture, with the insertion of new pieces balancing textures, colors and eras. In the conception of the project, the works of art have an important highlight, since they occupy the entire house. Sculptures, tapestries with modernist and contemporary paintings. Decorative objects from the family collection, inserted in specific places, tell the story of their lives while they create memories. The project stands out for its careful integration of the old with the new, resulting in a renovated space full of personality. ????
