The barber shop owner Felix Rabe (Heinz Rühmann) travels to Vienna to claim the inheritance from his deceased aunt Barbara. He is not particularly happy when he discovers that his aunt has only left him thirteen old chairs. So that he can at least afford a return ticket, he sells the already meager estate to the second-hand dealer Alois Hofbauer (Hans Moser). When Felix spends the night in his deceased aunt's apartment, he finds a letter stating that his aunt had sewn her entire fortune into one of the chairs. The next day, a wild hunt for the chairs begins with the second-hand dealer Alois. Unfortunately, he has sold them all individually. A mishap ultimately leads to Felix becoming a rich man through a completely different circumstance...
