A series of explosions at a military warehouse in Holguín, Cuba, may have been caused by failures in the handling and storage of old ammunition, according to an analysis by Lieutenant Colonel Octavio Pérez. The expert said that inadequate conditions and a lack of trained personnel, combined with the use of aging Soviet weaponry, could have triggered the incident. Pérez stressed that the use of young soldiers with little experience in critical tasks such as ammunition inspection, as well as the possible absence of adequate bunkers, evidence structural logistical failures. Although the Cuban government has not offered detailed information, the explosions reflect a deterioration in the country's military maintenance capacity.
