The lengthening we give when we anchor is very important. So what is lengthening? Why is it important? We explain it all theoretically in this video ???? ⚓️ How to drop anchor? • a sandy area is determined (avoid anchoring in rocky, stony and mossy areas) • the safest area in the bay that will not get close to the land is determined • the boat is stopped at that point ((if the chain is thrown without stopping the boat, the anchor will bounce on the ground and cannot be positioned in a fixed place... in other words, the anchor will not hold)) • the chain is thrown as much as the depth and continue • a little astern is given, the chain is laid on the ground • it is released again, the length of the lengthening is calculated (can be min. 5 and max. 10 times the depth you threw) • if the position of the boat, its swing against the wind, the distance between boats or to the land is ok, • a little astern is given and the anchor is checked (by taking a bearing to a single point, or by asking the blacksmith about the tension of the chain) and the anchor is buried in the sand • it is released again. The boat assumes its own position. If you wish, your hook is attached to the empty one. • If the depth and clarity of the sea is suitable, (if you are curious too) check the status of the anchor with a mask by swimming. ⚓️ Importance of Slack: What ensures that the anchor does not drag is the length of the slack. Drop 5 times the minimum depth, 10 times the maximum. For example, drop anchor between 25-50 meters in a depth of 5 meters. The longer you are going to stay in the bay, the longer the slack should be so that your anchor does not get loose from the daily wind movements. As the wind gets stronger, throw a longer chain, i.e. increase your slack. ⚓️ Offshore • You can start anchoring by keeping a sufficient distance and aligning yourself from the back or middle hull of the boats. • observe the distance between boats for windy and calm weather • despite variable winds, make sure that there is no possibility of hitting any fixed object (rocks, shallow areas or a boat moored stern to the ground) when the boat turns 360 degrees in place • before going to bed at night in crowded bays, close your rear platform, if any, and lower or install the rear fenders on the starboard and port sides for safety • if possible, do not leave your boat while the boat is offshore • if you find it safe to leave your boat, but the wind suddenly picks up or an unexpected stray wind comes, return to your boat immediately • definitely lower/install all fenders in windy weather (even if your boat does not sweep, other boats may sweep the anchor towards you) ⚓️ Benefits of a Swirl at Anchor: • While the anchor is holding on to the sand during offshore, the wind causes the boat to turn 360° on its own axis, drawing an S on the ground like a chain circle or a snake. The swivel is useful for collecting the anchor quickly and easily without the chain getting caught or rather without causing any trouble while retrieving the anchor. • Another function of the swivel is to prevent the anchor from turning upside down while coming to its place towards the head roller and to ensure that it is placed properly and comfortably. • V-Log • Sailing • Chatty Blue Experiences • Technical • Theoretical ????????‍✈️????????‍✈️ Social Media????
