The English king Henry VIII has gone down in history as one of the cruelest monarchs for the thousands of executions he ordered, including those of two of his six wives. Was Henry VIII the worst husband in history? In this documentary video in Spanish we tell you the biography of Henry VIII, so that you know the real story of the English ruler. #history #documentary #biography “The plain truth is that he was an intolerable ruffian, a disgrace to human nature and a stain of blood and fat on the history of England.” These are the harsh words chosen by the English writer Charles Dickens to define Henry VIII, perhaps the most famous king in the history of England. Other adjectives that his detractors have dedicated to him are vengeful, cruel, strong and ruthless. Shared by those who praise his figure and who consider that these qualities, together with intelligence and his desire to conquer, were what a monarch of his time needed who wanted to make his kingdom a more powerful country. And, of course, among his admirers we find many Protestants, since it was he who, in England, broke with the Catholic Church. Henry Tudor was born on June 28, 1491 at Placentia Palace in Greenwich, England. He was the third child, the second son, of King Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, who had a total of seven, although only our protagonist, his brother Arthur, who was the firstborn Prince of Wales, and two sisters – Margaret and Mary – survived childhood. Henry VII had started the Tudor dynasty by taking the English crown after the victory of his side, the House of Lancaster, over the monarch Richard III, of the House of York, in the Battle of Bosworth, which ended the Civil War of the Roses. By the way, many of you already know that this war was the basis for the writer George RR Martin's series of novels 'A Song of Ice and Fire', in which the Lannisters and the Starks fight. And, to consolidate his power and reunite the two royal houses, Henry VII married Elizabeth of York. From the time our protagonist was two years old and throughout his childhood, he began to be the subject of numerous appointments: from Duke of York and Earl Marshal of England to Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, among many others. Naturally, the child had the best tutors at his disposal. He learned to speak fluent Latin, French and Spanish. He also received an extensive musical education. He was also trained in military arts: he was prepared to participate in jousts and was taught to hunt and shoot with the bow. Thank you for visiting our channel.
