Wilderness means harmony and balance. A wild area is one where natural processes unfold naturally: neither the life of the species nor the landscape are substantially modified by man or affected by his activities. There are few such areas left in Europe and that is why their value is, every day, greater: only here we still find species that used to populate the continent, only here the landscape is still that of the beginning of the world. Southwest Romania is one of the few such areas in Europe. The film aims to highlight the importance of wilderness conservation for local communities by emphasizing activities based on the use of natural resources that can generate economic benefits in a sustainable manner. The promotion of natural objectives, tourist potential and local customs are pursued, as well as specific elements of biodiversity and key species that reflect the wilderness character of the places. Although 6 distinct protected areas are captured in the Carpathians of southwestern Romania (4 National Parks, 1 Natural Park and a Natura 2000 Site), the compact nature of the wild area and its connectivity potential are presented. Film made within the project "Carpathian wilderness, wealth for people" is co-financed by a grant from Switzerland awarded through the Swiss Contribution to the enlarged European Union.
