This terrible state of affairs is directly linked to the drought. We all feel like we're coming out of a rotten summer, and yet, even this year, a third of French departments have had to impose restrictions on water use. A village near Narbonne found itself dry: nothing was flowing from the tap anymore. They were forced to have drinking water delivered by tanker trucks. The water table no longer allows for the supply of drinking water. I realized that we were not paying enough attention to what is happening under our feet. In France, nearly two thirds of the drinking water we consume comes from groundwater. However, do we know what a water table looks like? I decided to explore the bowels of the earth to better understand how it works. With climate change, periods without rain are becoming longer and more frequent. We called the program "The Water War in France" because we are witnessing the first conflicts caused by the scarcity of this precious resource. In Picardy, residents accuse anti-hail cannons of depriving them of rain. In Charente, citizens are fighting to block the construction of mega-basins intended for agricultural irrigation. We absolutely must learn to manage our water differently to preserve this vital resource. This is the fight led by Emma Haziza, this researcher deploys a lot of energy to alert the inhabitants and to find solutions. In a building in Grenoble, rainwater is already used to supply the taps and the city of Les Sables d'Olonne is launching an even more surprising project: treating wastewater from bathrooms and toilets to transform it... into drinking water! In this original format combining investigation and discovery of our most precious ecosystems, Hugo Clément takes us closer to the women and men who are fighting to defend the planet.
