Dr. Oğuz Kalelioğlu was born in 1945 in Artvin. He completed his primary and secondary education in İzmit. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1966 and became an Artillery Officer. He graduated from the Artillery and Missile School in 1967 and served in various units. In 1973, he went to Famagusta, Cyprus as the Mujahideen Battalion Commander. He defended Famagusta for a month against the 8000-person Greek and Greek National Guards during the Cyprus Peace Operation with the 252-person Mujahideen Battalion and the people of Famagusta, earning the city the title of Gazi. He graduated from the War Academy in 1978 and became a Staff Captain. He took specialized courses at the Royal Academy in England, Germany, the USA, Belgium and NATO Headquarters. He served as a Department Head in NATO. He served as the 5th Corps Artillery Regiment Commander in Çorlu. He served as a Headquarters Officer, Branch Manager and Chief of Staff in Urfa-Adıyaman, Adana and Diyarbakır in the Internal Security Operations. He became the Head of the “Greece and Cyprus” Department and Coordinator within the MGK General Secretariat. He served as the Head of Department at the General Staff for 4 years. He retired in 1997 due to lack of staff. He served as the Chief Advisor at the Presidency of Religious Affairs for 4 years. He completed his doctorate at Ankara University, Institute of Turkish Revolutionary History. He conducts research and studies on Turkish Revolutionary History and Turkish History. He has eight books, two of which are published and six of which are ready to be published. He holds the “Superior Courage, Renunciation” and “Armed Forces Writing” Ribbon Badges and the “War and Internal Security Medals”. He is married with 2 children and speaks English.
