The Wien River is the most important landmark in the west of Vienna. It connects Schönbrunn Palace with the Naschmarkt and the city park. Otto Wagner had the idea of arching over the entire course of the river and building a grand boulevard here. In the end, the Wien River was only led underground for a few kilometers around Karlsplatz. The Wien, which is an alpine river, has always been feared by the city's residents because of its rapidly rising water levels. Nevertheless, it took until the end of the 19th century - long after the Danube had been regulated - to tame the Wien in a solid bed. Episode two of the new production series about the waters of Vienna is about the Wien River and its influence on the history of the city of Vienna.
