The film treasure “Das Vest Recklinghausen” shows footage from 1952 of today's Recklinghausen region, including the towns of Datteln, Dorsten, Marl and Haltern am See. The film focuses on the changes the region has undergone seven years after the end of the Second World War. Old customs and traditions meet new forms of entertainment and the idyllic natural landscapes exist alongside the flourishing industry. At the same time, the local population was also constantly changing: after the Second World War, several refugees from eastern Germany came to the region. Among them was the filmmaker Karl-Heinz Kramer, whose first film is precisely this film treasure. The target audience were those new people in the region; as a form of local history, the film was intended to bring them a little closer to their new home. In the “Film Treasures” series, we publish selected documentaries, shorts and amateur films from past decades in full length on YouTube. What is characteristic of the film selection is that the “Film Treasures” focus on topics from Westphalia, look at them from the time they were created and convey a certain period color.
