Danjong was the 6th king of the Joseon Dynasty. He ascended to the throne at the young age of 12, but was eventually killed by his uncle, Prince Suyang, and was an unfortunate figure. The ancestral rites for Danjong have been performed for 310 years, and the Danjong Cultural Festival has been held annually since 30 years ago in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do. We will look at the historical events that took place over two centuries from Danjong’s dethronement and death to his restoration 200 years later, and find traces of Danjong living in the lives of the residents of Yeongwol.
