Eminem (born Marshall Bruce Mathers III on October 17, 1972 in St. Joseph, Missouri), also known as Slim Shady,[1] is an American rapper, songwriter and music producer. He is a Grammy, Oscar, and Emmy award winner[2] and, according to Billboard magazine, the most successful musician of the 2000s in the United States.[3] His albums The Eminem Show are the third and The Marshall Mathers LP the seventh best-selling album of the decade in the United States.[4] According to record awards, he has sold over 376 million records worldwide in his career, making him one of the most successful artists of all time. With more than 11.7 million sales, he is also one of the most successful musicians in Germany. In 2011, the music magazine Rolling Stone called Eminem the "King of Hip-Hop".[5] The rapper is the owner of the music label Shady Records and was a member of the hip-hop formations Soul Intent, The Outsidaz, D12 and Bad Meets Evil. The name Eminem comes from the pronunciation of his initials "M & M" and is also spelled EMINƎM.
