This is a short story about one of the many Uruguayans who silently and almost unnoticed builds his and his family’s daily life through a trade that almost no longer exists, that of a drover… Here on National Route 100 in the northeast of the department of Durazno, we meet Raúl Nuñez and his 12-year-old son Lucas. They are leading a small herd from Villa del Carmen Durazno to the town of Greco in Río Negro, over 180 kilometers, which requires a little more than three days of steady, even trotting… These are simple notes that touch our souls and leave us with a great lesson, the same teaching that perhaps this child learns from his own father. Lucas Manuel helps his father in his free time, but he does not give up on studying, and that is where his example and message for other young people is…
