▶ A comfortable hospital like my home, like a neighbor's house. Director Jeong Hae-young, who worked at a successful foreign IT company in Seoul, entered medical school at the age of 30 and became a late-blooming doctor after his grandmother's death. He left the city behind and came down to Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do, where medical services were poor, and opened a small internal medicine clinic in the town and became a country doctor. As he wished to create a hospital with a low threshold and a comfortable place like home, the hospital became a neighborhood gathering place. Patients think of him as the uncle next door, or their son, and they bring him food to share with them, and they stop by to chat. We meet Director Jeong Hae-young, who put down his authority as a doctor and lives as a country doctor, living with his patients like family. ▶ A shaky local secondary hospital, and the people who protect it 'ㄱ' Hospital in Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do is the only secondary hospital in Geoje-si, but it is struggling due to a lack of medical personnel. It posts an advertisement to recruit the insufficient personnel, but there are almost no applicants. The medical staff who have difficulty getting in leave the hospital soon after due to issues such as children's education and living environment. In addition, there are many patients who insist on going to hospitals in Seoul and patients who ignore local hospitals, making it even harder for medical staff. However, there are medical staff who take care of patients with a greater sense of mission because of this environment. We visit their fierce medical field, where they fulfill their calling for patients even in difficult environments. ▶ I want to help medically underserved areas Director Cho Seok-beom served as a public health doctor in Sunchang and then ran a pediatric clinic in Gyeonggi-do. However, in 2022, when he applied for the competition to select the director of Sunchang-gun Health and Medical Center, he quit the hospital he had run for over 20 years and came to Sunchang alone, away from his wife and son. He wanted to help Sunchang, which had given him warm memories when he was young, and Sunchang, which had now become a medically underserved area. The reality he faced when he came down to the region was more serious than he thought. Last year, Sunchang-gun Health and Medical Center posted a 5th announcement for a surgeon with an annual salary of 300 million won, but there were no applicants. There are many issues to be resolved in the future, but we meet Director Cho Beom-seok, who plans to build a trustworthy local medical center by establishing various systems.
