Tree chests are one of the oldest types of furniture from the Middle Ages. The iron-clad oak chests were used to store valuable objects and were, to a certain extent, theft-proof and fireproof. Two craftsmen, a carpenter and a blacksmith, show in this film how to make such furniture from a freshly felled oak tree. The replica is interesting for archaeologists because in the future, by comparing the processing marks, they will be able to assign certain tools and techniques to them. Carpenters and hobby craftsmen get an insight into the working world of their medieval colleagues.
