On July 28, the D51200 completed its test run on the Hokuriku Main Line, and was sent from Umekoji to Shin-Yamaguchi on August 15, during the typhoon. On the last day of August, the D51 made its test run on the Yamaguchi Line for the first time since May of last year. The outbound test run was not the usual early morning, but was conducted at the same time as the regular Yamaguchi train, and the return run was a night train that runs after the last train on the Yamaguchi Line. It was unusual that this was the first test run in a long time, but it was only the D51200 and the 35 series passenger cars, and the DD51 diesel locomotive, which would be a backup in case of an emergency, was not attached. Therefore, the train was formed like it was when the steam locomotive was still in operation. It has been announced that the Autumn Yamaguchi will be a substitute for the diesel locomotive, and attention will be focused on whether the D51200, which performed the test run, will pull the Yamaguchi in the future.
