The Taj Mahal, the jewel of India, was built in a white marble of the highest purity. A magnificent stone that can only be found in Makrana, in Rajasthan. The mine extends over more than thirty kilometers. Every day, nearly twenty thousand miners extract two hundred tons of this "white gold". Since the mine is overexploited, it is sometimes necessary to dig one hundred and fifty meters deep, risking one's life, to extract blocks of marble and bring them up by cables. Fatal accidents are a daily occurrence. These miners earn little more than five dollars a day, which they send to their families back in the village. But they are proud, because they participate with their blood and tears in lasting splendors. Director: Magalie Sallé, Paul Comiti
