Our film from 2010 looks at the following reopening: After decades of being idle, the upper Wieslauftalbahn line has begun its second life. While diesel railcars transported thousands of passengers every day between Schorndorf and Rudersberg - about thirty kilometers east of Stuttgart - the extension up to Welzheim lay dormant. With its 25 per thousand gradient, this line is steeper than the Geislinger Steige. When it was listed as a historical monument in 1992, operations had long since ceased, but the tracks remained. With an unflagging belief in a future as a heritage railway, the members of the Welzheimer Bahn support association defied all adversities. Together with the town of Welzheim, the Rems-Murr district and the state of Baden-Württemberg, they have now succeeded in putting their idea into practice: a heritage railway up into the Swabian Forest. We broadcast this episode by Bettina Bansbach with the number 722 for the first time on June 27th, 2010 under the title: The Swabian Forest Railway - a new beginning on old tracks. #eisenbahn-romantik #swr #wieslauftalbahn All statements and facts correspond to the status at the time and have not been updated since then.
