LGBT+ individuals have always been subjected to various types of pressure and persecution in Azerbaijan. At least 200 people were arrested during mass raids in 2017 (mtv.re/az/b/tFB). After their release, they reported the torture and degrading treatment they faced. The pressure on LGBT+ individuals continues. According to the report of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA), Azerbaijan ranks last among 49 European countries in the ranking of the protection of the rights of LGBT+ individuals for several years, including 2021. Transgenders also face more pressure. They are attacked (mtv.re/az/b/ypL), among them there are people killed. The last such incident happened in August of this year in Baku's Garadagh district. A transgender woman named Nuray was burned to death with her hands and arms tied. Some time before the incident, Nuray came to the news with the video he took in his wedding dress on his girlfriend's birthday. Most transgender women are engaged in sex work in Azerbaijan. And most of them emphasize that they were forced to do this, they were not hired elsewhere. Meydan TV tells the story of a different transgender woman this time. This is Lauren, 27 years old. She lives in the city of Sumgayit and works as a stylist in one of the beauty salons there. "They told me to drop out of school" Loren was born in a village of 23 houses in Shabra and lived there until the eighth grade, continued his education in Baku, and then moved to Sumgait. When Loren went to study in Baku from the region, he regretfully remembers being greeted with discrimination and insulting expressions.
