The restoration of the 540 K streamlined car is one of Mercedes-Benz Classic's most demanding projects. Almost every single part that is no longer available and every detail must be made individually or supplemented from the Mercedes-Benz Classic collection. But that is ultimately part of the journey through time that this complex restoration project provides: Even in 1938, when this vehicle was first built, it was an individual one-off. While in 1938 the former special vehicle construction department at the Sindelfingen plant built only unique automobiles of the finest kind day after day and year after year and developed a certain routine in doing so, their current successors at Mercedes-Benz Classic are repeatedly faced with the recurring question during many work steps: How was that done back then? But you can tell that they see this question as part of their challenging task of restoring the vehicle as precisely as possible.
