In his workshop in Barcelona, David Bagué, one of the most talented and charismatic violin makers in the world, dedicates himself body and soul to making violins with a single goal: to achieve the transcendence achieved by Stradivari's violins. ------- Subscribe to wocomoENGLISH: https://bit.ly/2VgSBml Follow us on Facebook: / wocomo ------- “The Stradivari Complex” follows David Bagué in the making of a violin, from the day he receives the order to the moment the musician plays the instrument for the first time. We will observe the progress of his work and analyze why Stradivari violins are still the most appreciated instruments. We will also reflect on the role of contemporary violin making compared to the great violin makers of the past, getting to know some essential aspects of David's life: Cremona, the city where Stradivari worked and which inspired him; Ruggiero Ricci, one of the best violinists of the 20th century and the man who discovered David; Jordi Savall, a reference point on the international music scene and a great friend of his; and Leonidas Kavakos, one of the best violinists of the present day. It is a story about the pursuit of excellence that will open the doors to an unknown profession, where art and craftsmanship, instinct and technique, tradition and modernity face each other and complement each other like the harmony of violin music. ---------- THE STRADIVARI COMPLEX Notes by filmmaker Josep Padró A few years ago I read an American bestseller and discovered the world of violin making. A very interesting and little-known profession, closely linked to music and art. Since I was a child I have always admired handicrafts, probably because I am bad at tinkering, and I have always loved art in all its forms, but music is the artistic form I value the most. Therefore, it is not surprising that I found a world where two things I admire mixed very interesting. Soon I started researching and gathering information, more as a hobby than as a profession. What surprised me most was something that I thought was more an exaggeration of a novel than something real. Musicians, luthiers and all people related to this profession live obsessed with the figure of an old Italian luthier named Antonius Stradivarius. I was surprised to discover that people would do incredible things to get an original Stradivarius. Some time later, I was lucky enough to meet David Bagué, the best Spanish luthier and one of the five most valued luthiers in the world. Bagué is a unique character who fits perfectly into his profession. A strong personality, solitary, introverted and self-confident; and with something special that he calls instinct. He is a violin maker who rejects the classical teachings of the Stradivari school to form his own. The documentary soon took shape in my head. I had an interesting and little-known subject and a unique character ©2013, 3boxmedia ------- High-quality documentaries on science, society, history and wildlife: wocomoDEUTSCH provides access to reliable and high-quality sources of information in German.
