Erika Siahaan shed tears when she first arrived at the tsunami tourist site of the houseboat. She did not expect a 25-meter-long, 20-ton fishing boat to be stranded on the roof of a resident's house. The earthquake on the morning of December 26, 2004, followed by a 30-meter-high tsunami, devastated Banda Aceh. The fishing boat that was being repaired was dragged 1 kilometer to Lampulo Village. A total of 59 people managed to survive on board. Erika had not planned a trip to Aceh. Initially, she was going to return to Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra, from Jakarta to celebrate Christmas. Because the tickets were sold out, she chose to transit in Aceh and continue the trip by bus. Together with three friends, Erika visited a number of tsunami tourist sites. They saw the Tsunami Museum, the Floating Diesel Power Plant, and the houseboat monument. Erika finally witnessed firsthand evidence of the devastating tsunami that she had only heard about.
