The Akl-ı Kıssa Tuesday Talks seminar series continues in the Fall 2024 Semester at the History Foundation! The second seminar of Akl-ı Kıssa for the Fall 2024 semester will be given by Özlem Dilber under the title of “The Women's Movement in Turkey in the 1950s, the Struggle for Political Rights, and the Atatürk Myth”. This talk will discuss the 1950s, a little-known period in the history of the women's movement, and women's struggle for political rights during this period. Focusing on the discussions in the “weekly social political” Kadın Newspaper of the period, the continuities and differences in the discourse, struggle, and organizing methods of women activists will be examined; an attempt will be made to show the meaning of the discourse of “the rights Atatürk provided to women” and the Atatürk myth constructed around this discourse for women activists. This study was supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) with Project No. 122K781. Özlem Dilber would like to thank TÜBİTAK for its support of the project. Senem Timuroğlu will participate in the seminar as a discussant. In the Akl-ı Kıssa seminar series coordinated by Nurşen Gürboğa and Gülay Yılmaz, women historians will speak and we will listen once a month on Tuesdays. In the seminar series, women historians' works, publications, research agendas, and contributions to the discipline of history will be made visible, and their struggle for existence in the conservative, male-dominated discipline of history will be highlighted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOU TOO BECOME A FRIEND OF HISTORY!
