WHAT I EXPLAIN IN THIS VIDEO CAN COMPLEMENT BUT NOT REPLACE THE DRIVING LESSONS YOU CAN TAKE IN A DRIVING SCHOOL. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A LICENSE, WATCH THE VIDEO TO GET ANY USEFUL ADVICE. THE STEERING WHEEL AND YOUR HANDS In one of the previous videos we took a ride in the car together and I showed you the indicative speed to keep in different urban traffic situations. In this video we get back in the car together and I will show you some techniques to use To turn the steering wheel without having difficulty with wide turns or especially with tight turns, including roundabouts. Let's get started. It is known that to have good control of the steering wheel, and therefore to be able to have good control of the vehicle when executing curves and turns, it takes a bit of practice. A correct technique will obviously be very important to be able to execute them in the right way. Curves and turns are not all the same, however, they have different radii of curvature: there are more or less wide ones and more or less narrow ones. In this video I will show you a basic technique to execute both. In the route I chose to shoot this video we will find wide and narrow ones. We will also come across roundabouts. The first two curves to tackle are fairly wide right-lefts, and I prefer to tackle them, since in this case I can, keeping both hands at the standard nine-fifteen position, and turning the steering wheel by making the hand command the opposite direction to the one I have to go: in the right-hand curve I will push the steering wheel with the left hand, in the left-hand curve I will push the steering wheel with the right hand. The next stop will be a roundabout where we will turn left. The roundabout is very narrow and keeping both hands attached to the steering wheel like in the curves just seen is impossible. To make this type of turn, you will see that the hands will cross each other, without obviously remaining crossed, and for convenience I will do the same movement, in reverse, to straighten the wheels on the exit. The movement will always be controlled and rather fluid. Parenthesis: I will put the left indicator before entering the roundabout, and the right indicator before exiting. Let's get back in the car. So slow and controlled movements, the hands will cross each other but never remain crossed, Once the turn is over the hands will automatically return to their place. Now a bit of straight road, and then another roundabout where we will always turn left. This roundabout is slightly wider than the one we just saw, but the technique with which I will turn the steering wheel will be the same. You saw that to make the left turn in both roundabouts, the first very narrow, the second just a little less, I used the same technique. Now let's accelerate again and head towards a rather narrow double left turn. Before the turn we will obviously have to slow down with due notice and shift down the gears necessary to get there in second, as it is quite narrow. If you missed the video on preparing for the turn in which I explain what to do with the brake, clutch and gears, I leave the link in the description, or you can click on the usual "i" here at the top right. Now, using the roundabout that is a little further ahead, we take advantage of it to go around completely and go back, redoing the route we just saw, but in reverse. The left turns will then become right turns and let's see if anything changes in the hand movement setting. The double left turn seen earlier will become a single right turn, rather tight. We are in fourth gear and this time too we slow down and do the downshifts with due advance notice. We arrive at the roundabout, carefully checking the right of way, and since there is no one there we do not stop. The left hand turns to the right, The right hand steps over while the left returns to its place. Same thing in reverse to straighten the wheels. Now we go towards the very tight roundabout seen More or less at the beginning of the video. It will be the last tight right turn we will make together. I bet you already know how it will be done. Let's get back in the car. The technique is always the same, the left hand pushes to the right while the right steps over and the left returns to its place. Same thing in reverse to straighten the wheels #howtoturnthewheel #thewheel #drivingtips
