Ichihara History Museum's main exhibit material, the Haniwa excavated from Yamakura Tomb No. 1 [Chiba Prefecture designated cultural property], is known to have been fired at the Oinezuka Haniwa kiln in Konosu City, Saitama Prefecture, one of the largest Haniwa workshops in eastern Japan, and transported all the way to Ichihara. As a special exhibition in 2024, which marks the 20th anniversary of the publication of the excavation report of Yamakura Tomb No. 1, a large number of Haniwa from the late Kofun period (late 6th century) will be exhibited, including the Haniwa of figures excavated from the Oinezuka Haniwa kiln site [Important Cultural Property], to get a glimpse into the true nature of Haniwa culture and regional exchange on the Boso Peninsula.
