The Selketalbahn is the oldest narrow-gauge railway in the Harz. In an idyllic landscape, between forests and meadows, the small river Selke, which gives the Selketalbahn its name, meanders through the valley. The narrow-gauge train has been steaming here since 1887. Its starting point is the small town of Gernrode. From here, the 50 km long route leads via Alexisbad, Straßberg to Stiege and Hasselfelde. This route is still used once a day. The portrait looks at the eventful history of the Selketalbahn and makes short detours to the collegiate church in Gernrode, Falkenstein Castle and the Grube Glasebach visitor mine.
