Relations between the Second Polish Republic and Lithuania were tense from the beginning. This was primarily due to the Polish-Lithuanian conflict of 1919-1920 over the shape of the border. The Polish army eventually occupied Vilnius, which was a huge blow to Lithuania. On the other hand, the Polish minority that remained in Lithuania was repressed by the state authorities. We will present important figures on the Polish and Lithuanian sides who decided on the course of events. We will recall the figure of Voivode Bociański, who left his mark on the Vilnius Voivodeship. We will look at the change in relations that occurred after the death of Józef Piłsudski, who came from the Vilnius area. Where did this conflict come from? Why was World War I so crucial to the development of events in Lithuania? Why did the legacy of the First Polish Republic play an important role in it? What did the growing importance of nationalism have to do with it? All this is discussed in the podcast of the Polish History Museum.
