In the summer of 1959, massive earthworks took place outside the gates of the city of Hattingen to relocate the riverbed of the Ruhr and create more space for the Ruhrstahl AG factory site. This massive intervention in the landscape was accompanied by a camera team and is documented in the film "The Ruhr gives space". After almost 65 years, the film is now being made publicly available again for the first time. The digital processing was carried out by the LWL Media Center for Westphalia in cooperation with the thyssenkrupp Group Archives and the LWL Museum Henrichshütte - with financial support from the museum's friends' association. Astrid Dörnemann from the thyssenkrupp Group Archives provides an introductory introduction. A booklet with background information on the film can be downloaded here: https://westfalen-medien.lwl.org/wp-c... In the "Film Treasures" series, we publish selected documentaries, short and amateur films from past decades in full length on YouTube. What is characteristic of the film selection is that the "film treasures" focus on topics from Westphalia, look at them from the time they were created and convey a certain period color.
