Watch the program of the Bulgarian National Television "Bulgarian village" for 27.10.2024! The "Bulgarian Village" series will this time take you to the Eastern Rhodopes. Only 100 meters from our border with Greece is the village of Kushla. Over 500 people once lived in the village. Today there are only twenty left. The school has long since closed and is falling apart, as are half the houses here. In search of work, young people flee either to the nearest city of Zlatograd or abroad. The life of the local residents is not easy, but they do not complain. They live in harmony with the world around them. They are sad that there are no young people. They are proud that in Kushla there is the only place in Bulgaria of healing earth - mummy. They call it "the black gold of the Rhodopes". Locals claim that it helps with fractures because it is rich in calcium, iron and magnesium. The area is notable for its wild nature and bizarre rock formations. Only here is the autochthonous breed of short-horned Rhodope cattle bred. There is no shop, doctor or pharmacy in the village, and the water came from the taps only 12 years ago.
