Born in Sri Lanka in April 1945. He became a monk at the age of 13. He teaches Buddhist philosophy at the National University of Kelaniya. He came to Japan as a government-sponsored student in 1980. After completing his doctoral studies at Komazawa University, he is currently engaged in Buddhist evangelism and meditation instruction at the Japan Theravada Buddhist Association. He has also appeared on NHK Educational TV's "The Age of the Heart" and is a lecturer at the Asahi Culture Center.
