In the Kötzschau Railway Museum, we are showing a once widespread Reichsbahn standard barrier system in the open air. It is fully functional and shows, among other things, the characteristic ringing when it closes. In the years 2018 - 2020, the system in our museum was reconstructed from collected original old parts, and missing components were reproduced exactly according to historical drawings. The so-called Reichsbahn standard barrier was introduced in 1929. With it, the then German Reichsbahn Company aimed to simplify the different systems from different manufacturers that had been in use in Germany up to that point, as well as to ensure sensible and rational stockpiling of spare parts. This design is characterized by the following points, among others: the drive is mounted in two sections and transfers the force to the barrier boom with two tabs, the barrier boom, which is welded in several shots, is mounted in a trough without drilling, and there is also a spring-loaded impact post. Numerous components on the system are installed multiple times in order to achieve the above-mentioned minimization of different components. After 1945, the standard barrier was only slightly modified and continued to be used by the Deutsche Reichsbahn and Deutsche Bundesbahn. These days, it is rare to find such barrier systems in daily operation. On our railway line between Leipzig and Großkorbetha, the last such system only disappeared in 2015. The film looks at the interesting technology and also shows some equally great vehicles.
