When winter comes, the campsite in Prerow becomes empty. Everyone goes home to their apartments, only Horst Lüdtke stays. The pensioner from Berlin lives in a small camper van on the Baltic Sea - 365 days a year, for over ten years, and even in sub-zero temperatures when he has to wade through the snow to get to the shower rooms. Horst Lüdtke has been camping at the same site in Prerow since the 1970s. The Berlin native has now lived there for over ten years. He decided to live in a camper van in 2000 - after a breakdown: he was in intensive care for two days, he needed a pacemaker. Since then he has been unable to work. The restaurant that Horst had built in Biesdorf brought him more stress than income anyway. The pensioner leaves his house, the restaurant business and the big city behind and exchanges his old life for a 30 square meter camper van, beach, sea air and lots of peace and quiet. Horst has few but very good friends on the Baltic Sea. Like the chemist Eckhard Levin, who is visiting him - and he's also bringing cross-country skis with him. It's the first time Eckhard has skied on the Baltic Sea beach. Visiting the luxury camper In the evening, Horst, Eckhard and camper friend Klaus from Saxony have a little winter barbecue party. On the other side of the site, holiday campers from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have arrived. They sleep in their luxury camper vans. When Horst's friends leave again and the snow starts to melt, Horst visits the luxury campers at their pitch. The friendly Mecklenburgers give him a little tour of their campers. This awakens longings in Horst Although the dropout is happy with his simple life on the campsite, he would also like to be able to drive away. But that's not possible; his caravan is very old and hasn't been moved for over twenty years. The luxury campers drive on after a few days. Horst is left behind in the ice.
