They sell rotten goods to people and have shares in three factories in the village. Gregory has two sons; "Stepan" who runs the shop and "Inisim" who works in the city... "Abkend" is the story of a rich family in a village whose people are not in a good financial situation. "Grigory Petrovich" is a rich old man and a landowner who married a good and benevolent woman named "Varvara" after the death of his wife. Varvara helps people a lot. On the other hand, he is aware of the wrongdoings of Gregory's young and deaf son Stepan and his wife Agsenia. Inisim, who wants to get rich, sells counterfeit coins in the city with a man named Saramadov, and some of them are with Mr. Petrovich. Varavara proposes to Inisim a working village girl named Li Pa. Agnesiya hates Li Pa and does not consider him a member of their family. The conflicts between the Petrovich family escalate until finally a sinister incident is found... As much as Chekhov knows the relations of the Russian urban bourgeoisie, he is equally familiar with the relations of the rural working class and the relations of lord and serf in the period of Russian feudalism. .
