The customer claimed that it seemed like the voltage was not high enough for perfect operation. Upon arriving at the location, the electrician measured the FN voltage at the QDC and found 127V. He unplugged the equipment and measured the voltage. The device also registered 127V. The electrician concluded that there was no problem with the installation, but with the equipment. Would you be able to quickly tell what the electrician's mistake was? Do you want to understand what happened in theory and in practice? Voltage drops are a frequent problem in electrical installations and are related to poorly sized circuits. According to Ohm's second law, the longer a conductor is or the smaller its nominal cross-section, the greater its resistance. In other words, thinner or longer cables have a higher electrical resistance value. When we size the cables of a circuit incorrectly, that is, thinner than they should be, or when we do not consider the issue of distance, we end up creating resistances above certain values ​​and when the electric current flows through a resistor we have voltage. Since the cables are in series with our load, part of the voltage remains on them and the rest on the load that does not receive the value provided by the source. If I remove the load and measure the voltage with a multimeter, I no longer have high currents circulating and I also no longer have voltage on the cables and that is why it registers the same voltage value on the QDC, for example.
