The Republic's Instrumentalist 2018 On November 9, a competition called the Republic's Instrumentalist was held in Viljandi Traditional Music Shed. The purpose of the competition is to popularize traditional music and promote the ability to play instruments. A true instrument player is appreciated in every company and throughout the ages! The hallmark of a good instrument player is, of course, the ability to play an instrument, but it is not the only and not always the most important quality. Sometimes it's the right player with extremely good charisma and conversation, other times the best one has a particularly personal and intimate relationship with the instrument, while the third one has an exceptional knowledge of traditions, persuasiveness and functionality, i.e. the ability to play just for dancing. The person recognized with the title of Republic's Piper has all these qualities together and maybe even more! The competition takes place every two years!
