About :

From the case around 9:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025, a large group of Thai workers, both men and women, brought their luggage to Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station to ask for help after being deceived by a broker who said that they would take them to work in agriculture and industry abroad. This broker, named Ms. Oi, charged the workers 60,000-120,000 baht per person for travel expenses, claiming that it was a good-paying job, and arranged for workers who had transferred the money to meet at Suvarnabhumi Airport on the evening of January 4 to prepare to fly to work. But when they arrived at the airport, they found that there were no airline tickets booked, and no travel abroad. When asked, Ms. Oi simply said that she could not contact the person who accepted the job and received the money. There were 250 victims, while Ms. Oi herself came to file a complaint, claiming that she was also a victim. She said that she knew a senior named Fa, who claimed to work at the Australian Embassy in Thailand, and invited her to be a job broker. If she could find Thais to work in Australia, she would be paid 2,000 baht per person. As for workers who wanted to work abroad, There are travel and document expenses of 30,000-60,000 baht per person, or some may have to pay hundreds of thousands of baht, depending on the length of time they want to work abroad. So I told my relatives in case anyone was interested in going to work. When someone contacted me and transferred money, I withdrew the money and deposited it in a check, along with the workers’ documents, to Ms. Fa at the embassy to arrange the travel. I collected the names and money of about 250 workers who wanted to work, totaling over 12 million baht in checks for Ms. Fa. After that, Ms. Fa said that she was scheduled to travel on the night of January 4, and asked all workers to show their passports at the airline counter. However, when it was time to check the flight tickets, there was no travel information or a single worker who had received a flight ticket. When I called Ms. Fa, I couldn’t get through. So I took all the victims to report to the police. The Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station advised the victims to file a complaint at the Crime Suppression Division, because there were a large number of victims, which would facilitate the prosecution. All the victims gathered to file a complaint with the investigation officer. At the Crime Suppression Division today (January 6, 2025) at 10:00 a.m., Mr. Somchai Morakotsriwan, Director-General of the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor, revealed that initially, the Department of Employment assigned the Central Employment Registration and Jobseeker Protection Division to send officers to receive complaints from groups of victims together with the Human Trafficking Suppression Division, Central Investigation Bureau. Currently, the investigation has identified the individuals involved in deceiving the aforementioned group of job seekers. The Department of Employment will assign officers to file complaints in order to prosecute those who deceive job seekers in accordance with the law. At the same time, the Suvarnabhumi Jobseeker Checkpoint has been ordered to increase the strictness in checking the movements of individuals or groups of individuals who are illegal job seekers or brokers who bring job seekers to work abroad illegally. A letter has also been sent to the airline to help investigate irregularities, which may include illegal work abroad or large group travel. In addition, a letter has been sent to Suvarnabhumi Airport Police Station to request assistance in reporting cases where individuals have filed complaints that they were deceived into working abroad so that legal action can be taken. The Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor, would like to inform Thai workers who are traveling abroad to work, asking them to do so by legal means, 5 methods: recruitment agency sending The Department of Employment sends people to work in person, employers in Thailand take their employees to work, and employers in Thailand send their employees for internships. They also emphasize to Thais who are looking for work abroad to check before going so that they do not regret it and do not lose money. Before deciding to transfer money to anyone, please check the list of employment agencies that are authorized to send job seekers to work abroad from the Department of Employment at the website of the Central Employment Registration and Job Seeker Protection Division doe.go.th/ipd first.
