In 2019, Dr. Akira Yoshino, who succeeded in developing lithium-ion batteries, won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Upon hearing the news of the Nobel Prize, all Japanese people were impressed and said, "What an amazing research!" If we trace its origins back to one person, Dr. Yoshio Nishina. It was Dr. Nishina who encouraged Dr. Hideki Yukawa, the first Japanese to win the Nobel Prize in Physics, to write a paper on meson theory. Dr. Shinichiro Tomonaga was also one of the students who received instruction in the Nishina Laboratory. Many of Japan's Nobel Prize winners in Physics this century are descended from Dr. Nishina. Dr. Yoshio Nishina built Japan's first cyclotron, trained many atomic physicists, and raised Japan's science to a world standard after the war. How did he live as a person? In this program, we visit the places associated with him, interview Dr. Nishina as a person, and the current state of science education in Japan.
