In this video, Francesc Gascó talks about the origin of language and the ability of our ancestors to speak. Although language does not fossilize, the bones of the auditory system have been preserved in some sites, such as Sima de los Huesos, where the bones of Neanderthals and pre-Neanderthals have been studied to find out if they were capable of speech. Using computerized axial tomography, paleoanthropologists concluded that Neanderthals had an auditory bandwidth equal to that of modern humans and much wider than that of chimpanzees. This suggests that Neanderthals, and probably their common ancestor with humans, were capable of hearing and producing complex sounds, possibly a language rich in sentients. Another study with Australopithecus and Paranthropus also confirmed that those archaic humans had auditory sensitivity similar to ours. ⚫ Follow us on TikTok! / fundacionpalarq ????
