Amorous black grouse vie for the favor of the few remaining black grouse in the enchanted moorland on the high ridges of the Ore Mountains and herald the arrival of spring. The best-preserved high meadows in Europe are transformed into colorful carpets of flowers. A unique habitat for butterflies and insects. Underground, forest archaeologists discover ancient woods that could provide answers to the forests battered by climate change. A historic settler train moves through secluded forests and reminds us how settlement changed the face of the Ore Mountains forever. And on the shortest night of the year, an amateur ornithologist sets out to find the king of the meadows.
