Six years after the founder of the Schlawe company was blackmailed for three million marks and shortly after his son Wolfgang took over and ruined the company, he was found shot dead on the first floor of his villa. The initial investigations at the crime scene and the interrogations of his wife Helga and 70-year-old Josefa Burger, Wolfgang's housekeeper and foster mother, pose a number of puzzles for Inspector Köster and his colleagues. When his brother Lars, who has lived in Boston for over 25 years, turns up in Munich during a business trip through Germany, Köster's questions become even more complicated.
