This environment was described in his book of short stories In Our Time (1925). Working as a reporter, Hemingway enlisted in the Italian army in 1916 and was seriously wounded on the front line. After leaving the hospital, he began working as a correspondent in Paris. In 1926, he published The Sun Also Rises, a book that would achieve surprising success.
