The Nidda is a river that flows from the Vogelsberg to Frankfurt into the Main. Human use had turned it into a dead-straight canal in parts of the Wetterau. Since 2015, the Nidda has been transformed back into a natural habitat and recreation area: with natural bends, riverbanks, gravel banks, trees and numerous fish and bird species. The Hassia Mineralquellen, located in the immediate vicinity of the Nidda, has supported the renaturation to date with 80,000 euros.
