Agriculture in São Paulo, and we dare say in all large cities, exists as a form of resistance to concrete. There are places where agriculture persists, it is resistance to real estate speculation and in areas that resume agriculture in urbanized areas, it is resistance to the separation between man and nature. Agriculture has existed since man became urbanized. The city grew on top of vegetable gardens, farms, farms, forests managed by indigenous people (who also resist and exist in São Paulo). This agricultural past leaves memories remembered only by the names of streets, avenues and neighborhoods that make almost no sense to citizens today. Urban agriculture has several functions for the city and its people. The first and most fundamental is to enable the realization of a way of life for people who do not submit to the imposition of the frenzy of the city and, amidst the hustle and bustle and speed, are able to maintain a natural rhythm, connected with nature, with plants, animals, with the seasons of the year, and thus are able to live full, satisfied lives, and also full of challenges and problems, but with strength and purpose to move forward. Agriculture in the middle of the city is stubborn, its resistance lies in showing that we cannot dominate nature and that despite technique and technology, at the end of winter we will have sidewalks dirty with blackberries, sidewalks cracked with trees and in the cracks weeds and edible weeds will grow and that we will always be nature. The urban, peri-urban and rural gardens of the city provide a breath of fresh air and a connection, so essential for everyone. #sampa+rural
