Their project, located in Sardinia, is more than just a family garden where they grow vegetables, fruit and herbs using regenerative agriculture techniques; they intend to recover the contact with the land and pass it on to their children and certainly to their generations. Lidia finds peace and tranquility in working in the garden early in the morning. She enjoys manual labor and connection with nature, which helps her integrate with mother earth. Davide, musician and father of La Era Nuova, suggests that we live in harmony with nature since this natural lifestyle allows us to discover our true purpose in this world. Lidia and Davide use various techniques to cultivate the soil and promote biodiversity. They practice no-till agriculture, using a spade fork to aerate the soil without disturbing its structure. They also use their own compost as a natural fertilizer to enrich the soil. Mulching is another technique they use to protect the soil, nourish it, retain moisture and promote a perfect ecosystem. Companion planting, or friendship planting, is another essential aspect of their family garden. They grow corn and beans together, where the beans fix nitrogen in the soil for the corn. In addition to growing food, Lidia and Davide also focus on self-sufficiency by transforming food through fermentation, producing honey and wax from bees and also home herbalism, creating creams, oils and herbal teas. They use chicken droppings, organic waste and earthworms to create their own compost. Lidia and Davide recognize the importance of bridging the generation gap in knowledge on sustainable living. They believe that combining traditional wisdom with modern technology can create a balanced approach to living in harmony with nature. Using technology, such as irrigation systems, solar panels and communication to access important information in their lifestyle in nature. The New Era represents their connection to the land and their vision for a new world that combines the recovery of traditional knowledge fused with modern technology. In the next ten years, Lidia and Davide see themselves on their land with a green house using natural materials, creating a sustainable and efficient living space that aligns with their principles of living, permaculture, energy efficiency and autonomy.
