Sixteen years after the death of Marcus Aurelius, Rome is ruled by the corrupt twin emperors Geta and Caracalla. In the North African kingdom of Numidia, a refugee named Hanno lives with his wife Arisata. The Roman army, led by General Acacius, conquers the kingdom, kills Arisata, and enslaves Hanno and the other survivors. The slaves are sent to Stia; the Romans expose the slaves to wild baboons to test them as potential gladiators. Hanno brutally kills a baboon, impressing the stablemaster, Macrinus. Macrinus promises Hanno the opportunity to kill General Acacius if he wins the fights. Acacius returns to Rome as a war hero. Geta and Caracalla hold gladiatorial games in the Colosseum to celebrate his victory. Acacius, disillusioned with the war, asks for a break with his wife Lucilla, daughter of Aurelius, but the emperors disagree and order the conquest of Persia and India. Senator Thrax throws a party for the emperors and stages a gladiatorial duel as entertainment. After Hanno's victory, he recites a verse from Virgil's Aeneid and reveals his Roman education to the emperors, which arouses Macrinus' suspicion. Acacius and Lucilla conspire with Thrax and Senator Gracchus to overthrow the emperors and restore the Roman Republic. Hanno imitates the legendary gladiator Maximus in the Colosseum to win the fights. Lucilla discovers that Hanno is her son Lucius Verus, who sent her as a child to protect her from rivals to the throne. Lucius leads the gladiators to victory during a naval battle in the Colosseum and shoots a crossbow at the spectator Acacius but fails to kill him. Lucilla visits Lucius and tries to reconnect with him, but Lucius angrily rejects her. She is upset that she was forced to flee Rome and that her new husband caused the death of Arisate. Lucilla reveals to Lucius that he is the son of Maximus and tells him to use his father's strength to survive. 00:00 - Gladiator 2 01:31 - What was the purpose of the first film? 05:55 - The beauties of the second film 08:49 - The film's most important mistake 12:31 - The unused potential of the script
